Family prayers
Send us your family prayer
Some prayers exist in one house only — written by hand by a grandmother, prayed for forty years, never printed anywhere. If your family has one, this page explains how to send it to us.
The family prayers already published arrived exactly this way: from the family that prays them, with the name of the person who composed them and the original wording kept intact. None came from a prayer book or an anthology, and that is why they deserve a page of their own — the text of a traditional prayer sits on twenty websites; your grandmother’s sits on none.
Read the family prayers already publishedWhat we need to receive
The fuller the submission, the better the chance the prayer becomes a page. The form further down asks for each of these things and writes the email for you — but nothing stops you writing it all by hand.
The text, exactly as it is
The full name of whoever composed it
Your relationship to that person
Where the prayer comes from
The dedication, if there is one
Permission, in writing
What happens next
Worth saying plainly before you spend half an hour writing: sending does not guarantee publication.
- We read everything and we reply
- We do not promise publication
- If it goes in, it goes in with credit
- You can change your mind
Write your email here
Answer what you know and the form writes the email for you to copy. Nothing you type here leaves your browser: this site is static, there is no server receiving this form, and the sending is done by you, from your own email.
Would you rather write the email yourself?
You do not need the form. Write to the address below, with this subject, and answer each item on the list in the body — in order, with the heading of each one before your answer.

Writing out for an unfamiliar website the prayer your grandmother left behind is no small thing. We know that — and it is why every submission is read in full by a person, and answered by that person.
