Send us your family prayer

Some prayers exist in one house only — written by hand by a grandmother, prayed for forty years, never printed anywhere. If your family has one, this page explains how to send it to us.

The family prayers already published arrived exactly this way: from the family that prays them, with the name of the person who composed them and the original wording kept intact. None came from a prayer book or an anthology, and that is why they deserve a page of their own — the text of a traditional prayer sits on twenty websites; your grandmother’s sits on none.

What we need to receive

The fuller the submission, the better the chance the prayer becomes a page. The form further down asks for each of these things and writes the email for you — but nothing stops you writing it all by hand.

  • The text, exactly as it is

    Just as the prayer is prayed, with the line breaks where they belong. Do not correct the grammar or modernise the wording: we publish the original text, and where it surprises we explain it on the page instead of changing it.

  • The full name of whoever composed it

    That name is what appears on the page, prominently, right below the prayer. Without it publication is impossible: the page would say the text is not ours and fail to say whose it is.

  • Your relationship to that person

    Whether she is your grandmother, your godmother, your father — or whether you wrote it yourself. It tells us where the text comes from and who is in a position to give permission.

  • Where the prayer comes from

    When and in what circumstances it appeared, and how it reached you. This is the part that makes the page worth the visit — and "I do not know the date" is legitimate information: we publish it that way rather than inventing one.

  • The dedication, if there is one

    Many family prayers are born dedicated to someone. When that is the case, the dedication is part of what comes with the text, and it is published beside the authorship — not in the commentary.

  • Permission, in writing

    You need to declare that you have the right to share that text and that you authorise its publication with credit. It is a required field on the form, not a formality — the reason is right below.

What happens next

Worth saying plainly before you spend half an hour writing: sending does not guarantee publication.

We read everything and we reply
Every submission is read in full by a person and answered at the address it came from. If something is missing, we write and ask for it.
We do not promise publication
Not every prayer makes it in, and it is almost never about the quality of the text. We do not publish content on sensitive subjects, and we do not publish someone else’s text without the right to — both are turned down even when the prayer is beautiful.
If it goes in, it goes in with credit
The page names whoever composed it, publishes the dedication when there is one, and keeps the original wording. Whoever prepares the page — researching the origin, writing the commentary, reviewing it — signs separately: two different credits, in two different places.
You can change your mind
If one day the family would rather have the prayer taken down, just write to the same address. We unpublish it, no argument and no waiting period.

    “The Battle Rosary”, “the doorway prayer”, whatever name you use at home.

  3. WHO COMPOSED IT

    This is the name that would appear on the page, spelled out in full.

  4. MY RELATIONSHIP TO WHOEVER COMPOSED IT

    My grandmother, my godmother, my father — or “I wrote it myself”.

  5. DEDICATION(optional)

    To whom, and whatever is known about the dedication.

  6. WHERE IT COMES FROM

    When and in what circumstances it appeared, and how it reached you. Write what you know, even if it is little.

  7. WHEN THE FAMILY PRAYS IT(optional)

    At the front door, before a journey, through an illness.

  8. WHO IS SENDING THIS

    So we know who we are speaking to when we reply.

  9. HOW THE CREDIT SHOULD APPEAR(optional)

    By default we publish the full name of whoever composed it. If the family would rather it appeared another way, say so here.

  10. PERMISSION

    I declare that this text was not copied from a book, a prayer book, a website or anyone else’s publication, that I have the right to share it, and that I authorise Faith Flame to publish it with the credit given above.
